Rolling of the Bulls!!! What’s that??? Think running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain but instead of bulls there are Roller Derby girls chasing you with plastic bats! Here’s some history, in 2007 the event started in the French Quarter with 14 Rollerbulls from the Big Easy Roller Girls and 200 runners and it has grown to an event with 400 Roller Bulls and 14,000 runners from across the country!
Presented by Marker 20 restaurant in Downtown, Hampton this event has been bought to Hampton Roads for the fourth year in the row with the Dominion Derby Girls front and center. Check us out promoting the run on The Hampton Roads Show. Every year before the run we have a party with the bulls that consist of delicious sangria (trust me, it’s delicious!!!) and all-you-can-eat paella (also very delicious!). Brave runners of all ages fly through the streets of Downtown Norfolk with bat wielding derby girls hot on their heels. After the run everyone hunkers down for La Balloontina, in place of the Tomatina where tomatoes are thrown. In La Balloontina everyone is divided into two teams and 2,000 biodegradable water balloons with red food coloring are thrown at each other. When the last balloon is thrown the winner is the person with the most amount of white showing.
After all the rolling festivities the bulls serve beers for the evening during the Hampton Block Party , however at this years event on July 11th, the rain held off just long enough for the event to be completed. We hope this event continues to grow each year with more rollerbulls, more brave runners and more streets of Downtown Hampton to roll through!
