Local rivalries can be intense, even when they are fun! Kill Devil Derby Brigade met the Seven City Sirens at Haygood Skating Center on Saturday, July the 18th in an attempt to earn bragging rights for

the year. The game ended in victory for the Seven City Sirens with a score of 194 to 170 with 30 points being scored by Dominion in the last jam. The game was best summed up by our two announcers for the night; Navajo Joe (derby widow of Kill Devil Skater Tenacious Vee) and Lane Rocks (DDG Skater out on a 9 month injury and a leg and ankle break).

Let’s hear what Navajo Joe had to say about the events. “Wow. Last nights bout was one of the closest I’ve ever seen. It was quite the battle between Kill Devil Derby Brigade and the Dominion Derby Girls Seven City Sirens which came right down to the last two minutes of the bout to determine the winner. Unfortunately, KDDB wern’t the winners but gave one hell of a fight to prove that they are the team to be reckoned with. Well done girls. Last but not least, thank-you to DDG for

asking me to announce with Lane Rocks again. We had a hard time doing our job and not getting

caught up watching the action! If you haven’t been to a roller derby bout yet….You need to because I can’t wait till the next one!!!”

And what was Lane’s perspective? “Got home last night after 2am, having closed down the bar & after party (drinking water & eating Shady Skatey’s birthday cake) after the most insane roller derby bout I’ve seen so up close, which is great because blowouts aren’t fun to watch. Yes, I said it. Blowouts are boring. Sorry, not sorry. Kill Devil Derby Brigade held the lead throughout the majority of the game until the last six or so minutes, where the Seven City Sirens suddenly burst in like the Kool-Aid Man in those few jams, which lead to a nail-biting tug-of-war over 1 to 3 point differences. Then? That last jam? It became a power jam…as a lead jammer Sparkle Wolf made work on the track for the remainder of that final jam….that sealed the final score with a pick up of 30 points. Lawd. Sick. Awesome. Amazing. Insane. Like woah. I announced this one too, with my cohort Navajo Joe

who was kind enough to give me the good mic! Great game, great sportsmanship, great everything, great friends, & birthday cake. Life is good.

MVP's!

And, if the end of that game wasn’t exciting enough mid track right after the game…

Mr. Nasty got down on one knee and proposed to Dr. Crunk Nasty, we hear it may be a roller derby themed wedding in the Fall!
